There’s a spine-tingling adventure waiting for the children of Hertfordshire when they take part in the 2013 Summer Reading Challenge at libraries across the county. They can join in the adventure at the Creepy House, simply by reading six books from the library. They can also discover the secrets of Creepy House and meet some of the hair-raising residents!
Are Hertfordshire’s children brave enough to explore The Awful Upstairs, The Gruesome Ground Floor and The Spine-tingling Cellar?
The challenge starts on Saturday 13 July and runs until Saturday 7 September and children of all ages can collect a free starter’s pack from any Hertfordshire Library including the mobile libraries. Participants will be rewarded with stickers when they visit their local library to talk to staff about what books they have been reading and if they complete the challenge they will be invited to attend a special presentation ceremony in order to receive their medal and certificate and will also be entered into a prize draw where they could win the chance to meet a real life author.

You may recall that this year we launched a new fundraiser – the LeaBay – where our volunteers collected items you donated to the school for us to sell on eBay, with all proceeds going directly to the school.
Donations included perfume, a nursing chair, a cot bed, stairgates, a pair of vintage Nike trainers, telephones, a Baby Bjorn sling, computer speakers, a jeep parcel shelf, a fireman’s helmet and a 1950’s microscope! We also put on eBay the higher value items donated to our Christmas and Summer fairs that we were unable to sell on the day.
Do you sell on eBay?
You may not be aware that we have also set up the school as a listed charity on eBay, which means that any individual sellers are able to donate a percentage of sale price to the school. This can be anything from 10% to 100%, it’s up to you.
Thanks to your generosity, we are pleased to announce that so far this year, we have raised nearly £400 from the sale of your unwanted goods!
We will be organizing another collection weekend at the beginning of next term. So if you’re having a clear out over the summer and you discover anything you think we could sell, please contact Sara Sparrow at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her on 07810 850 060.
We held our annual talent show today, which was enjoyed by everyone. We saw an amazing range of talents from the children and also from our performing members of staff who treated the audience to a very entertaining dance routine! A special mention goes to our fantastic hosts who ensured everything ran smoothly. Well done everyone who was involved! Thank you to Mrs Carberry and Mrs Gibson for organising the talent show.
