Christmas Fair – Fri, 29th Nov 3.30pm

October 27, 2013

The Christmas Fair is only a month away and as usual with our fairs, the PTA relies on the very kind donations given by parents, carers and friends of the school.

Sara Sparrow is leading the production of the programme again this year and Vanessa Mason is once more gathering some fantastic prizes for the raffle.  If you are aware of any businesses wishing to donate a prize or place an advert in the programme please contact Vanessa at leaschoolpta@hotmail.co.uk

We have a truly outstanding line-up of prizes for the raffle again this year: top prize being a fantastic Christmas hamper from the Governors.  Other prizes incl. panto tickets, meal vouchers (Bar Azita, Lussmans, Billys, Harpenden Arms, Slug ‘n Lettuce, Godfreys, Oval Cafe, Gingerbread Man), days out (Big Space, Farmyard Funworld, Willows Farm, Paradise Wildlife Park), MOT, gym passes, zumba, wine and the list goes on…  Prize fund currently at around £1,200 and growing.  Watch out for the tickets which will be sent home in book bags on Friday, 15th November.

This year we are asking for your help with donations listed below.  Please use the half term to start collecting, but because we have nowhere to store items, only bring donations into the school on the morning of FRIDAY, 29TH NOVEMBER.

  • Bottle Tombola for the ‘big people’ – We would like donations of drinkable bottles, either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, big or small.
  • Chocolate Tombola for the ‘little people’ – We also require chocolates in wrappers or boxes; big or small, advent calendars, etc. all gratefully received!  We will be sending out cellophane bags for filling on Friday, 22nd November.
  • Cake Stall – A plate will be sent home a few days before the fair.  Please bring in all delicious cake donations on Friday, 29th November.

All the above donations will be in exchange for coming to school in non-uniform on Friday, 29th November.

Other stalls which need your support are:-

  • Adopt A Teddy – Please donate any unwanted soft toys in a good condition.
  • Christmas Stall / 2nd Hand Stall – We are looking for items / gifts in good condition. We are also looking for unwanted ornaments, DVDs, CDs, toys, jigsaws, Christmas decorations, books, etc.

After the half term we’ll be looking for volunteers to help with setting up on the day or running a stall.  If you can spare even just half an hour it would be appreciated.

Christmas Fair – Raffle

October 27, 2013

We are going to change the way the Christmas fair raffle is drawn.

In the past we’ve listed all the prizes and when a name has been drawn the winner has chosen the prize they wanted.  Whilst this had its benefits, because of the amount of time it took winners to choose there were long backlogs, which caused confusion and frustration.

We’ve looked into how other schools run their raffles and this year we will be drawing the Top 3 prizes as before, but thereafter each name drawn will automatically be allocated a prize from the list in alphabetical prize order.  The benefits of doing it this way include:

  • Greater transparency – as each name is drawn we can also call out what they’ve won at the same time.
  • It is a fairer system for ticket purchasers who are not able to attend the actual draw – they will simply be allocated the next prize on the list in alphabetical order.
  • Keeping up the suspense – just because your name is drawn second to last doesn’t mean you’ll go home with a ‘dud’ prize.  Likewise just because you’re drawn 4th doesn’t mean you’ll go home with the 4th best prize.  All part of the fun!
  • Just look at some of the amazing prizes you could win!

October 25, 2013

As part of their efforts to raise money for Cancer Research, some of our Year 5 pupils held an art competition.  Some lovely drawings were entered and a fantastic £46.29 was raised.  The winners were announced in our celebration assembly this morning.  Well done to everyone!

KS1

2nd – Amara Martin Y2
3rd – Lula Morfitt Rec

KS2
1st – Liam Giacobbi Y4
2nd – Gabi Cost Y5 and Babli Abubakar Y5

The total amount raised for Cancer Research from both the art competition and last week’s cake sale was £78.74.  Very well done to the Year 5 pupils involved.  They put a lot of thought and hard work into raising the money.

New Classroom Update

October 25, 2013

I have now able to give you further details regarding the new classroom.  I have been informed that the ground works are due to start during the half term holidays.  However, for the short term, our existing Nursery classroom will not be removed as it is to be used as a site office.

Next half term, our Nursery children will have a temporary classroom set up in an area of the Reception classroom and also in the hall for various activities.

A huge thank you to the parents and governors who gave up some of their time today to help clear out the Nursery classroom. It is very much appreciated.
