International Week & Happy Hour

June 27, 2014

International week has been a great success with each class taking part in a variety of activities. The children enjoyed learning all about their chosen language/culture.  Thank you to those parents and carers who came in and taught the children some of their language and shared their culture. Thank you to Mrs Hills for organising the activities.

After school parents and carers had the opportunity to look round the classrooms to see what the children have made and learned this week during our Happy Hour from 3.30 to 4.30pm.

Nursery Trip to a Woodland Adventure

June 27, 2014

The Nursery children spent an enjoyable afternoon with Shaun Herbert at the Highfield Oval forest yesterday for their ‘Try something new’ outing.  Shaun is a forest school leader who owns and runs Fingertips nursery in Harpenden.

The children had their lunch in the forest and were then introduced to the afternoon’s activities which included mini beast hunting, whittling their own stick men (based on the Stick Man children’s story book), crossing the rope bridge, net climbing, making mud pies, tree climbing and free play in the forest.

They all had a fantastic time and learned through play in our natural environment. Thank you to Mrs Broadbridge and Mrs Clark for organising the trip and to our teaching assistants, Miss Le Blond and Mrs Pemberthy.  Also to our parents and carers who came along to help on the trip; Mrs Anver, Ms Kwache, Mrs Martin, Mr Morfitt, Mrs Stevens and Ramona.

Herts Advertiser School Awards 2014 – Finalist

June 25, 2014

The Herts Advertiser held their 2014 School Awards at Oaklands College on Tuesday 24th June.

Over 180 guests came together to celebrate the achievements of staff and students at the schools and colleges across the district.  Shirley Hayman from The Parents’ Show, hosted the awards and interviewed each winner, giving an insight into their dedication, passions and determination.

Although we didn’t win the overall category, we are pleased to announce that our PTA Chair, Sue Stevens, was awarded a certificate for being a Finalist in the Unsung Hero category (the accolade that Vanessa Mason won last year!).

The Awards Programme can be viewed here.

Year 1 Class Assembly

June 25, 2014

Year 1 gave a class assembly today all about their topic on ‘holidays’.  They have been learning how modern day holidays compare to those take in Victorian times.  The children recited poems and sang their holiday related songs beautifully! Thank you to Miss Bennett, Mrs Giacobbi, Mrs Kong and Mrs Pratt for helping the children put together such a wonderful assembly.

Official Opening of New Classrooms

June 23, 2014

Y1 and Y2 parents/carers were invited to attend the official opening of the new classrooms today, followed by refreshments on the new playground.

The Mayor of Harpenden, Councillor Mary Maynard, and Councillor Chris Hayward, the Executive Member for Education for HCC, cut the ribbon and officially opened the new classroom block.  These new classes replace the old Nursery mobile class and mean we now have one classroom for each year group.

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended the opening and to the PTA who organised tea and biscuits for everyone (and for the lollies for the children!).
