Puzzle Challenge Day – 24th November

November 14, 2014

On Monday 24th November, we are very excited to be holding a Puzzle Challenge Day for the children.  The Happy Puzzle Company is coming in to run workshops with the children from Reception to Year 6 throughout the day.  The programme will help develop the pupils’…

  • Thinking skills
  • Logical reasoning skills
  • Maths skills
  • Team skills
  • Communication skills
  • Abilities to overcome difficulties with school work

After school on Monday 24th November from 3.30 to 5pm, there is the opportunity for parents to come in for a free parent and family workshop.  Places for this are limited so if you are interested in attending you will need to let the school office know.  A letter attaching a reply slip will follow very soon and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  Unfortunately if you have not reserved a place, you will not be able to attend the workshop.

Christmas CD Recording

November 14, 2014

We are very excited to confirm that on Monday 17th November, all the children in the school will be involved in recording a CD with Christmas songs.  There will be a mix of class songs as well as whole school and key stage songs.

Order forms will be sent out for you to order copies of the CD.  The cost of the CD will be £8 and £2 from every cd sold will go to school funds.  It will be a fantastic addition to your Christmas CD collection as well as a wonderful memory for your child. The CD orders will be submitted at the beginning of December and we should have the CDs ready to distribute a week later so that they will be here in good time for you to enjoy during the festive season.

All the children in year 1 – 6 took part in a cd cover design competition.   We had some fantastic designs and it was a very hard decision to make. The design chosen was by Gabi Costa in Year 6. Well done Gabi.

On Our Way To Outstanding!

Our new Hertfordshire Improvement Partner, Julie Kemp, came in to review standards at the school at the end of last week. She was very impressed with the progress our children are making and judged that the school has ‘Outstanding features’.

Year 3 and 4 Visit to the War Memorial

November 12, 2014

Year 3 and 4 walked to the War Memorial in Harpenden today to learn about why it is there. They talked about Remembrance Sunday and the significance of this year, being 100 years since the start of the First World War. They studied the plaques and the poppy wreaths and also drew a picture of the memorial. They all behaved beautifully throughout the visit. Thank you to Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Vellacott and Mr Humphrey for coming along to help.

Netball Friendly

November 11, 2014

This afternoon, 18 of our Year 5 and Year 6 girls took part in a netball match at Manland.  For some of them, it was their first netball match played outside school! All the girls represented the school very well, showing excellent team spirit and great enthusiasm. The first match finished in a 6-1 victory to Manland, the second resulted in a win for The Lea, 2-1!

We are all looking forward to the league matches next term.
