You may be aware that the school receives an annual visit from our Hertfordshire Improvement Partner (HIP) where a judgement is made about the effectiveness of the school.
Our HIP, Julie Kemp, was in school just before half-term and she judged all areas to be Good, with Behaviour and Safety, and the provision in our Early Years (Nursery & Reception) to be Outstanding. This is a very positive endorsement of everything we are doing at The Lea and means that our next challenge is to be judged as Outstanding overall. Thank you all for your continued support.

Year 6 visited the Natural History Museum in Tring today as part of their topic on the science unit of animals and humans. They attended a workshop about skeletons where they got to examine and identify the animal. They saw lots of displays of animals from across the world; including polar bears, snakes, tigers, seals and monkeys. They learned about where lots different species come from and how they evolved.
The children’s behaviour throughout the day was to be commended. In fact, a member of the general public also visiting the museum commented on how well behaved the class was.
Thank you to our parent helpers; Mrs Vellacott and Mrs Lambert and also to Miss Lincoln who organised the trip, Mrs Davenport, Mrs O’Donnell and Mrs Lincoln who accompanied the children.

This afternoon The Lea went to High Beeches to play two netball matches (a league and a friendly). In the league match, a last minute goal by Surina levelled the scores at 3-3, for a well deserved draw. In the friendly match, The Lea played well but High Beeches eventually won 4-2. Well done to all 14 girls from Year 5 and Year 6 who represented their school.

We are pleased to announce that our Lego Exhibition will be back for one last time!
Instead of running it in April as in previous years we will be holding it on Saturday, 26th September to tie in with the schools 40th anniversary next year.
SAVE THE DATE!

Our football team played an away match against Sauncey Wood this afternoon. They played really well and were a goal up in the first half. Despite their best efforts, the match slipped away from them in the second half. Well done for playing with such enthusiasm and positive sportsmanship.

Our Eco ambassadors are offering all pupils the chance to enter ‘The Lea Eco Mascot Competition’.
Children can design an eco mascot on paper and/or as a 3D model. The deadline is on Friday 13th March so pupils have plenty of time, including the half term break, to come up with some ideas. Further information can be found on the eco board in the dining area or from the eco ambassadors in Year 6.

This afternoon, a team of Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the Harpenden primary schools tag rugby tournament held at Harpenden Rugby Club.
They played 6 very closely fought matches and played with great team spirit and enthusiasm throughout. Redbourn Primary School, who made it to the final, said that the match they played against The Lea was their toughest one!
Everyone greatly enjoyed the afternoon, including those parents who came along to watch. Thank you to Miss Lincoln and Mr Martin who accompanied the children to the tournament. Thank you also to Mr Martin for giving so much of his time coaching the children during PE lessons and extra lunchtime sessions.
