Pupil Premium Funding

January 29, 2016

School meals are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 whatever your family circumstances. However, the school can get extra money for children who would have been entitled to free school meals in the past, and whose parents now claim certain types of benefits.

This extra funding is called Pupil Premium and it makes a real difference to the activities and experiences we are able to offer children.

We ask parents to consider looking at the online application form at to see if their child is eligible. Applications are completely confidential and do not affect any other benefit claims.

January 29, 2016

On Thursday after school, our netball team played an away match against Sauncey Wood. They played really well as a team, with lots of good defending and passing throughout.
The result was 8-0 to The Lea. Well done girls! It was lovely to see so many parents and carers coming along to support the girls. It was certainly a good match to watch!

Drug Awareness Workshop

January 29, 2016

On Wednesday morning, Vanessa Rogers, a former Hertfordshire County Council Schools Drug Consultant and now acclaimed UK PSHE Specialist ran a Drug Awareness Workshop for our parents and carers. The feedback from those who attended was very positive. It was very informative and parents came away from the session with lots of useful advice on how to help their children make the right choices in relation to this topic.
Thank you to Mrs Carberry for organising the workshop.

Young Voices Concert 2016 – O2 Arena

January 27, 2016

On Monday a choir of 36 children from years 4, 5 and 6 took part in a Young Voices concert at the O2 Arena in London. The children had worked very hard over the last few months learning a variety of songs including actions and dances as well. Amongst the songs were several medleys from pop, gospel, transport and Madness songs. A firm favourite was the song ‘The Power in Me’.

The children definitely had the power as they joined in the more than 7000 strong chorus of children performing to a packed audience. The concert also had performances from several artists  including street dancers ‘Urban Strides’, beat boxing champions, Tom Billington and Laura Wright. The artists performed with the children and even had the parents having a go at some beat boxing and street dancing! It was an amazing experience for all involved. During the concert one of the children exclaimed ‘I never want it to end!’ Other children said it had been the best night of their lives.

A huge thank you to Mrs Hills for organising our school’s participation in the event, including her endless enthusiasm and time given rehearsing with the children in the run up to the concert. Thank you also to Mrs Davey, Miss Lincoln and Miss Sykes for accompanying the pupils to and from the O2.
