Year 3 Class Assembly

April 26, 2017

Year 3 gave a lovely assembly to the school and their parents/carers this morning all about ‘The Secret Garden’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the book they have been studying in class. They recounted the story and read out their descriptive writing pieces on their own secret gardens. They also displayed the fantastic gardens they had painted using the ‘Pointillism’ technique and sang the song ‘Chasing Cars’ beautifully, which features the rather fitting line, ‘Show me a garden that’s bursting into life’.

Very well done Year 3 and thank you to Mrs Davey, Mrs Hills and Mrs Collins for  helping the children prepare for their assembly.

Chess Tournament

April 25, 2017

This afternoon Mrs Swinson accompanied our team of chess players (Rory, Ben, Matthew and Leo in Year 6, and Nathan and Rhys in Year 5) to the local schools chess tournament at High Beeches.

They each played 3 hard fought matches each, winning some and losing some. The results meant that they then each had to play another match against The Grove to decide 9th and 10th place. They won 4 out of 6 which placed them a well deserved 9th out of 14 teams. Very well done boys!

Attendance

April 19, 2017

Our weekly attendance target is 97%. This takes into account any absence due to illness as well as other authorised circumstances (such as medical appointments, music exams etc).   Unfortunately, overall attendance figures last term were lower than we would expect to see.

As a school we know that regular attendance is essential to ensuring good progress and outcomes for your child: there is a very strong link between attendance and achievement.

We recognise that any child can become ill and be unable to attend school, but headaches and slight colds, are not considered acceptable reasons for missing school.  We would also like to remind parents and carers that the current law does not give parents the right to take their child out of school for a holiday. The school can only grant leave of absence in exceptional circumstances. If you feel there are exceptional circumstances for taking your child out of school then you must complete a form from the school office.
